Pipe jacking is best suited for cohesive soils. Upon completion of a pipe jacking operation, the outside of the pipe can be grouted as needed. The face of a pipe jacking tunnel can be excavated through Hand Tunneling or Machine Tunneling (see Hand Tunneling and Machine Tunneling).
