Woodbox Tunneling A wood box tunnel is formed by construction rings of wood inside of a tunnel. Additional rings are added at the tunnel heading as the tunnel progresses. The major benefit of this type of tunnel is that its size and form are adaptable during installation; making a wood box useful in avoiding existing utilities. Wood box tunneling is best suited for cohesive soils. The face of a wood box tunnel is excavated by Hand Tunneling (see Hand Tunneling). |
